This short course aimed at novice walkers, will take you through all the essential skills needed to venture into the mountains with greater confidence.

During this course you will learn to navigate with the simple use of the map - its scale, features and contours. We want the map to become a friend rather than something to be feared. We will show you how to interpret the most important information and relate it to the ground you see before you, enabling you to make simple route choices and to know where you are all the time. You will also learn about estimating journey times and planning suitable walks using a route card.
